It’s concerning to hear about incidents where police weapons have been stolen, posing a threat to public safety. The recent theft of several thousand firearms and ammunition from various police units and armories in Bangladesh has understandably raised alarm among citizens.

When such weapons fall into the wrong hands, it creates a potentially volatile situation. Unlicensed possession of firearms can lead to instability and endanger public safety. Ensuring proper control and accountability over these weapons is crucial, and law enforcement agencies need to take swift action to recover them.

According to police sources, up to August 17, a total of 715 firearms of different types have been recovered nationwide. Additionally, 18,512 rounds of ammunition, 1,118 tear gas shells, and 170 sound grenades have also been retrieved.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has been actively involved in recovering stolen police weapons. So far, they have retrieved 97 firearms, 6,585 rounds of ammunition, and 28 magazines.

However, the exact number of stolen firearms and ammunition hasn’t been disclosed by the police. Experts emphasize the need for a concerted effort to recover these weapons promptly. Collaborative campaigns involving law enforcement agencies are essential to prevent further incidents.
