On January 27, 2025, the Department of Environment conducted 11 mobile court operations in Bhola, Lakshmipur, Rangpur, Khulna, Sirajganj, Chattogram, Narsingdi, Netrokona, Cox’s Bazar, Feni, and Dhaka’s Gulshan and Bhatara areas against the production, sale, distribution, and marketing of banned polythene.
These operations resulted in 16 cases, with fines amounting to BDT 53,500 collected, and approximately 1,300 kilograms of banned polythene seized. Additionally, shop owners in areas such as Gulshan kitchen market and Baridhara new market were issued warning messages to stop dealing with prohibited polythene.
A mobile court was conducted in Manikganj district against illegal brick kilns causing air pollution. Two cases were filed, and fines of BDT 1 lakh were collected.
In Dhaka’s Mohammadpur and Basila areas, two mobile courts were carried out under the Air Pollution Control Rules 2022 against air pollution caused by construction materials. These operations resulted in four cases, with fines of BDT 26 thousands collected, and several establishments were cautioned.
In Lakshmipur district, a mobile court was conducted against noise pollution. One vehicle driver was fined BDT 200, and two hydraulic horns were seized. Additionally, several drivers were issued warning messages.
The Department of Environment will continue such operations across the country to protect the environment.
