Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was committed to the US plan to occupy the Gaza Strip and evict Palestinians. In a statement on Monday (February 17), Netanyahu said he was committed to US President Donald Trump’s Gaza reconstruction plan. Al Jazeera reported.
Human rights groups have condemned the Trump administration’s attempt to occupy Gaza as a violation of international law and tantamount to ethnic cleansing. However, in support of Trump’s plan, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced on Monday that he would create a special directorate for the “voluntary departure of Palestinians” from Gaza.
An initial proposal put forward by Israel’s military administrative organization (COGAT) states that any Gazan who wishes to travel to a third country will be given extensive assistance. Katz’s office said in a statement that this would include special exit arrangements by sea, air and land.
Trump’s proposal has drawn widespread condemnation from Arab countries. Still, the issue is on the agenda of Marco Rubio’s visit to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. In a recent interview, Rubio said the United States is open to alternative proposals from Arab countries. But for now, Trump’s is the only plan.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it rejects any attempt to displace Palestinians from their land.
