The Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) has strongly protested and condemned the murder case filed against 25 journalists, including DRU President Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo.
The DRU leaders demanded the immediate release of journalists from such murder cases.
In a statement released on Friday, DRU Vice-President Shafiqul Islam Shameem and General Secretary Mohi Uddin said that indiscriminate filing of murder cases against professional journalists will obstruct the freedom of the press. If such cases against journalists continue, DRU will be compelled to initiate a broader movement to protect professionalism.
The DRU leaders also said that while any journalist found involved in corruption or illegal profit should be investigated, it is also necessary to stop filing cases against journalists with malicious intent to ensure an environment of free journalism.
On Wednesday, a murder case was filed against 25 journalists at the Bhasantek police station in the capital.
