A total of 426 people were killed and were 813 injured in 392 road accidents occurred across the country in September.
Of the deceased 61 were women and 53 were children.
Saidur Rahman, executive director of the Road Safety Foundation, revealed the information through a report on Monday.
The report mentioned that 179 people died 164 motorcycle accidents which were 42 per cent of the total number of fatalities. Besides, 162 accidents occurred on national highways, 144 on regional roads, 47 on rural roads, 34 on city roads, and 5 in other locations.
Eleven people were killed, four injured, and two are still missing eight waterway accidents while 13 died and nine injured in 17 train track accidents.
The report was compiled based on information from nine national dailies, seven news portals, various electronic media, and their own data.
Saidur Rahman also discussed the reasons behind the road accidents included — faulty vehicles; reckless speed; drivers’ reckless mentality, incompetence, no fixed salary or working hours; slow-moving vehicles on highways; reckless motorcycle driving by young people; lack of public awareness and adherence to traffic laws; weak traffic management; lack of capacity in the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority; extortion in the public transport sector.
